Catalunia

The PGA course ‘Golf de Cataluna’ near to Girona is one of many outstanding courses in the north east of Spain. Although this region doesn’t boast as many courses as other areas of Spain, it can certainly attest to having some in the most beautiful of settings.

Costa Blanca

Las Ramblas, Villamartin (host of the 1997 Mediterranean Open), La Sella and some of the newer courses such as La Finca are some of the many courses which are drawing thousands of expat property buyers to the Costa Blanca regions golf resorts. Within twenty minutes drive of Torrevieja for example, there are five world class courses to play, with many more a little further afield.

Murcia

Three of Europe’s most magnificent courses are located in the province of Murcia. The La Manga resort has hosted five Spanish Open championships in recent years and along with the newer resorts of Mosa Trajectum and La Torre by Polaris World, joins to make this area a golfer’s paradise.

Almeria

The region of Almeria is located to the north east of Andalucia in southern Spain. This region in particular is a rather arid area and playing the two first class courses of Desert Springs and Valle del Este leaves golfers with the impression that they are in not in Spain at all but rather in the desert regions of America such as Arizona.

Costa del Sol

Almost all of the Spanish Costas are dotted with golf courses creating a multi-billion euro industry. Due mainly to the consistency of climate and the ease of getting there, the Costa del Sol has positioned itself as the ‘cream of the crop’ in terms of quality and quantity of courses. This stretch of coastline alone has over thirty courses making up almost half of the sixty plus in Andalucia as a whole, with many of these hosting world championships on a regular basis.

The courses of Valderrama, Torrequebrada (‘The Beast’) and San Rouque (which is home to the Seve Ballesteros golf academy) are just some of the long list of world class golf courses in the Costa del Sol region.

Costa de la Luz

The Costa de la Luz can be found in the western region of Andalucia and is known for its ever growing choice of good value golf courses. Being relatively unspoiled, it is a popular choice amongst golfers due to the established courses such as the exclusive, four-star Islantilla Golf Resort (the venue for the Turespaña Masters in 1995), Isla Canela and the excellent new championship course at El Rompido.

All of the courses in this area of Spain offer some great challenges and stunning scenery of the coast line and ocean plus inland hills with rolling countryside.
