The Costa de la Luz ("The Coast of Light") is located at the southernmost tip of Spain and is a section of the Andalusian coastline
which faces the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of the provinces of Cadiz and Huelva and extends from the town of Tarifa along to the mouth of the Guandiana
River.
The Costa de la Luz is becoming more and more popular with foreign tourists, in particular those from France and Germany although this
region has always attracted the holidaying Spaniard due in part to the fantastic leisure facilities and the fine beaches and stable climate.
The increase in tourism has lead to the development of many parts of the coastline with many areas becoming increasingly more urbanized.
Although this demand for Spanish real estate has brought some sort of prosperity to the region, it has brought along with it the sort of environmental
damage that mass building is renowned for.
There are a number of notable nature reserves in the Costa de la Luz such as the Doņana National Park where it is possible to see birds
such as the Spanish imperial eagle and Iberian lynx in their natural habitat. Other spectacular areas in the Costa de la Luz include the Bay of Cadiz,
the salt marshes of Barbate and the mouths of the rivers Tinto and Odiel where storks and flamingos stop off during their migrations.
